Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach Golf Tournament

25th Annual Golf Tournament
Saturday May 12, 2012
8:30 a.m.
River Oaks Golf Plantation


Entry fee is $80 per person ($320 per team) which includes green fees, golf cart, continental breakfast, door prizes, refreshments on the course and lunch. Raffle tickets for additional prizes will be sold at registration. The tournament registration ends May 7th; individuals will be paired with other players to create a team.

This golf tournament will help support individuals in our community that need emergency assistance. In 2011, more than 28,700 clients received assistance from Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach totaling nearly $210,000 in rent, utilities, medications, gas, and other needs. More than 10,700 families received more than $125,000 in food from the pantry at Helping Hand.

Elderly Hearts Made Happy

The first day of May, known as May Day, is a celebration known across the world with various unique traditions. In the United States, early European settlers filled small baskets with treats and flowers and left them at someone’s doorstep. The giver rang the bell and ran away. The person receiving the basket tried to catch the fleeing giver with a reward of a kiss if they were caught.

Though the tradition has changed, United Way of Horry County’s annual Make Someone’s May Day effort brought smiling faces to 625 elderly Horry County residents. The seniors, many of them homebound with few visitors and in some cases, few resources, were greeted with a smile, a visit and a stuffed ‘May Day Bag’ filled with goodies.
